Senior Tax Accountant
Crystal Lake, IL Location
Summary: The Senior Tax Accountant is a licensed CPA who will perform a variety of tax assignments including reviewing individual, trust, estate, non-profit, partnership, and corporate tax returns; preparing complex tax returns; developing and supervising staff; and assisting in client management and firm development initiatives. Senior Tax Accountants will have the desire to grow professionally and to take on additional responsibilities. This position offers excellent opportunities for leadership and career advancement.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Review individual, trust, estate, non-profit, partnership, and corporate tax returns.
- Prepare complex tax returns.
- Implement client engagements from start to finish.
- Manage engagement budgets.
- Train, supervise, and mentor staff and interns on tax projects.
- Assist firm partners with proposals and business development calls.
- Communicate proactively with clients to gather information, resolve tax related issues, and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
- Respond to IRS and state agency audits, inquiries, and tax notices.
- Assign projects to staff that can process them most efficiently and provide accounting and tax assistance to staff as needed.
- Communicate directly with existing clients, colleagues, management, and IRS representatives regarding various tax matters.
- Assist with new hire and ongoing employee training.
- Engage in consulting and special projects as requested by management and clients.
- Take direction from and report to firm partners.
- Propose journal entries for clients as needed in conjunction with tax return preparation.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Good analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Good time management, project management, and organizational skills.
- Professionalism, dependability, integrity, and trustworthiness combined with a cooperative attitude.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Ultratax, QuickBooks, or equivalent accounting software.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
- CPA Certification required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or other major with intermediate tax and accounting course work completed.
- Minimum of three years of experience preparing all types of tax returns with a public CPA firm.
